Lignin effect in castor oil-based elastomers: Reaching new limits in rheological and cushioning behaviors
نویسندگان
چکیده
Lignin is demonstrated as an unprecedented reinforcing material that tailors the rheological and cushioning properties of castor oil-based polyurethane elastomers, expanding their viscoelastic moduli by four orders magnitude. The tensile strain at break was triplicated in presence lignin while Young modulus stress were enhanced 17- 7-fold, respectively. Remarkably, compression tests, addition increased stresses more than 88-fold, whereas failure shifted from 50 to 93%. Dynamic mechanical tests indicated outstanding resistance performance. Overall, results demonstrate a performance not reached before for biosourced elastomeric materials, fitting demands wide range applications.

Energy conversion in magneto-rheological elastomers
Magneto-rheological (MR) elastomers contain micro-/nano-sized ferromagnetic particles dispersed in a soft elastomer matrix, and their rheological properties (storage and loss moduli) exhibit a significant dependence on the application of a magnetic field (namely MR effect). Conversely, it is reported in this work that this multiphysics coupling is associated with an inverse effect (i.e. the dep...
متن کاملOn the stiffening effect of magneto-rheological elastomers
Magneto-rheological elastomers (MREs), a class of polymer-based composites with dispersed magnetic filler particles, are known for their tunable stiffness. The magnetic-field-induced stiffening effect, namely the magneto-rheological (MR) effect, is often attributed to the magnetic dipolar interaction. The direct attraction between two magnetic dipoles could increase the shear modulus of the mat...
